Dr. Meg Danforth grew up in Raleigh, graduated from Cardinal Gibbons High School, and attended Appalachian State University as a Chancellor’s Scholar.  She completed a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Purdue University in 2004, then returned to the Triangle to complete her clinical training at the Durham VA Medical Center.

In 2006, Dr. Danforth joined the faculty of Duke University School of Medicine, where she worked for 15 years as a clinician-educator. As the director of the Duke Behavioral Sleep Medicine Clinic, she provided advanced clinical care to adults with sleep disorders and comorbid conditions, such depression, anxiety, trauma, and chronic pain. She especially enjoys working with seniors, and more than half of her practice has been with adults ages 65+. Since 2007, she has been certified by the American Board of Sleep Medicine as a Behavioral Sleep Medicine specialist. She was awarded a Diplomate in Behavioral Sleep Medicine in 2020. 

Dr. Danforth is committed to teaching clinicians from a variety of backgrounds to deliver CBT-I in the settings in which they practice. As a Duke Psychiatry faculty member, she provided clinical education and training through the Clinical Psychology Doctoral Internship Program, the Clinical Psychology Fellowship Program, and the Duke Sleep Medicine Fellowship Program. She also teaches continuing education seminars for mental health professionals through PESI, Inc., and has delivered more than fifty 1-day and 3-day CBT-I workshops in cities ranging from Portland, Maine to Anchorage, Alaska.  In 2019, she was recognized as the Duke Psychology Honored Professor for her dedication to teaching and her lasting contributions to graduate medical education.  

She resides in Durham with her spouse, two teenagers, two senior Labradors, and seven rescue cats. In her spare time, she enjoys all kinds of crafting but most especially the fiber arts.
